Cartridge Box

The Cartridge Box was made of leather and carried 60 rounds of ammunition. Also carried in the Box are spare flints and Leathers for the Brown Bess Musket plus Musket Tool for fixing the Musket.

 

 

 

 

Water Canteen

The Canteen was made of wood and was carried on a leather strap. It was supplied to the Army by the Board of Ordinance (B.O.) and would have their mark stamped into the wood. Most Regiments would also paint their number onto it.

 

Fire Power

India Pattern Brown Bess Musket

The Brown Bess was the standard weapon of the British Army of the Napoleonic Wars. Seen in the picture are the wood block which held the cartridges in the Cartridge Box, A Cartridge, A Musket Ball, The Musket Tool, Mainspring Clamp and Cartridge Box. The top musket has a waterproof lock cover on.

Shako

This is the headgear of the 51st with Bugle Horn and Green Plume worn by Light Infantry in the British Army.

 

Jacket

This is the jacket of a private soldier of the 51st Light Infantry. It has Grass Green facings and single green stripe on the worsted regimental lace which is of pointed loops in pairs.
